Set Your DVR: Warren Will Quiz Obama, McCain, Beginning 8:00 p.m. Eastern Tonight

Just a reminder that tonight kicks off the campaign debating season in earnest, even though neither candidate has officially taken the nomination, when evangelical author and megachurch pastor Rick Warren hosts the two candidates for two candid conversations at Saddleback Church.

Warren promises to ask each candidate the same questions, ranging from the personal to the political, and from the religious to the secular. The two will be quizzed on their values, vision, and pragmatic political intentions for one hour apiece. Obama will begin, while McCain sits in a soundproof room so as not to be warned of the questions in advance.

This will mark the first time the two have appeared in the same venue, and will be covered live on CNN, FoxNews, and C-SPAN. It is part of the Saddleback Civil Forum Series, which Warren "established to promote civil discourse and the common good of all."

What a fantastic format and a disappointing topic. I'd love to hear such a format being applied far more broadly. I understand your interest in this topic but I am dismayed at the missed opportunity. To be honest, though, they would probably never submit to such a format with a wider focus; especially McCain, because he's a bit fact challenged.
