Pfleger Pfired--Pfor a While, Anyway

In a rather surprising move, Chicago's Cardinal Francis George has forced Father Michael Pfleger from his perch at Saint Sabina's on the South Side, following his race-baiting tirade in the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ last weekend.

The Cardinal suggested Pfleger spend a few weeks out of the church to, essentially, think about what he's done. Cardinal George's statement acknowledges that Pfleger "does not believe this to be the right step at this time."

The Cardinal, however, is insisting.

Pfleger has long been a controversial figure in Chicago religion and politics. But it may be his longtime association with Barack Obama that sinks his 33-year career for good.

awesome alliteration.

When I read it, I imagined it spoken in the voice of daffy duck.

Go ahead, think about it.

Oh, I barely tried.

I could have said "Pfather Pfleger Pfired Pfor Pfoolish Pflummery: Priest Pushed Into Punishment for Patently Political Posturing"

Or something.

By the way, I didn't do it on purpose, but I just noticed the cardinal/perch trick, too.

back on to the topic,

Why is this priest talking about Hillary Clinton?

I can't believe what he said. What a silly person.

He should have just stuck with the gospel not political gossip.

Stupid people.

He was talking about white entitlement. He would have been well within IRS guidelines if he'd just not brought her in as an example. He could have talked about Jim Crow, or job discrimination, or something vague and everybody would have known he was really talking about the current political climate. But he didn't. He had to go and say something as stupid as that.

And he knew he was doing it, too, because he says something like "I don't want to get you into any more trouble," so his alleged mea culpa is just not credible.

Cardinal George needs to pull him for good. And Trinity needs to be un-exempted. Either all the churches get to break the IRS regs without consequence, or Trinity has to lose its status. This is the most blatant breakage of 501c3 regs I can even imagine.
