The Undeniable Truth About Larry Craig
Idaho Republican Senator Larry Craig is making the obligatory denials but his history seems to indicate that the esteemed senator probably has a less-than-secret affection for the same sex.
Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) denied that he is gay at a Boise press conference on Tuesday, and said he regretted that he pled guilty to “disorderly conduct” at a Minneapolis airport in June.“I am not gay. I never have been gay,” Craig said. “I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct. I chose to plead guilty to a lesser charge in hopes of making it go away,” Craig said.
This denial might be more plausible were it not for a very well researched feature in the Idaho Statesman that seems to indicate that Senator Craig is being somewhat less than honest about his proclivity towards the less fair of the two sexes.
Does this make Larry Craig a hypocrite? Of course it does.
As Bill Sammon of the Washington Examiner pointed out on Special Report on Fox News tonight, it is possible to be openly gay and yet opposed to gay marriage and granting special rights to people based on the way they choose to have sex. It is however, hypocritical to be one of the conservative champions of marriage and family while being a closeted homosexual who picks up guys in the men's room.
If these allegations turn out to be true, and I would be very surprised if they don't, Larry Craig is indeed a hypocrite. But Craig's hypocrisy is nothing compared to the entrenched, institutional hypocrisy of the Democrats.
Republican Mark Foley was accused of sending lewd emails to male pages and was run out of town on a rail. Democrat Gerry Studds, on the other hand, who actually had sex with underage male pages, had a long and prosperous career as a Democrat, and was celebrated as a hero of the left upon his death around the time of the Foley scandal.
Edward "Teddy" Kennedy, serial womanizer that he was, was actually responsible for the death of a woman in a drunken driving crash but that hasn't dampened his status as an icon of the left.
Throughout the presidential campaign of 1992, while well-substantiated rumors of serial womanizing swirled around William Jefferson Blythe Clinton, Democrats rallied around their golden boy. By the middle of his second term, when his credentials as Lecher in Chief were firmly established, the Democrats whined that sex with a bimbo in the office where the president is supposed to be doing the people's business was none of the people’s business. Now, as many of them pray to God that Slick Willie will someday become First Lady of the U.S., they conveniently forget that he was disbarred for lying to a grand jury under oath. The woman who stood by and put up with this crap for decades is trumpeted from every corner of the Democrat universe as the smartest and strongest woman ever to have walked the face of the earth and a shoo-in to become the next president of the United States.
Finally, we have Barney Frank, esteemed House Democrat whose boyfriend was running a brothel out of his Washington D.C. townhouse. How many Democrats did as Mitch McConnell has done with Craig and demanded an investigation into Barney Frank's denials that he knew nothing of a gay brothel being run out of his place of residence?
You could go on ad nauseum about the lecherous conduct of House and Senate Democrats -- such is the Democrat's "culture of corruption" -- and these are just the sex scandals.
How many Republicans have been busted for getting drunk and drugged up and "not remembering" that they drove their Mustang into a concrete barrier outside the Capitol Complex? By the way, what's up with Patrick Kennedy these days?
How many Republicans would have retained their house seat after being caught on tape by the FBI taking a cash bribe that ended up wrapped in foil in their freezer?
How many leading Capitol Hill Democrats did you see denouncing former Georgia Democrat Cynthia McKinney when she beat the crap out of a Capitol Hill police officer and survived to serve out her term in congress? Can you imagine the uproar if a Republican had done the same thing?
Finally, can you imagine the huge scandal had a Republican senator's aide been caught trying to carry the senator's handgun past the Capitol Complex security detail as Democrat Jim Webb's aide did?
Isn't it interesting how hypocrisy and deviant behavior are utterly unforgivable sins for Republicans but seem to be a badges of honor for Democrats?

Steve, I agree that the article you cite is "well-researched." What I don't see in it is ANY evidence that Craig is, or ever has been, gay. The only people making such a claim are admitted Democratic gay activists, and they have no evidence of any kind.
I have no problem believing that the police, in a place known for its gay tourist population (thank God he didn't go to the Minneapolis Zoo!) overreached in this case. There was no mention of sexual contact, no solicitation, no actual contact, and there should have been no case. Had "disorderly conduct" not sounded so harmless (and potentially true--after all, doesn't that just imply that you did somethign to draw the attention of a police officer?), Craig would probably not have pled guilty.
In the article, some of the compelling evidence from his past includes the allegation that he "stared" at a guy. Whoo! Get out the firehose! I just don't see any evidence at all that he did anything other than go to the bathroom in the Minneapolis airport--which, through no fault of his, is a hangout for gay men cruising. It also happens to be a PUBLIC RESTROOM, where people go to the bathroom while waiting for their planes.
I also noticed that only three of his fraternity brothers in college even speculated that he "might" have been gay, based on his perceived effeminate characteristics. I have known plenty of "effeminate" men who were emphatically NOT gay. There is no place in this article that contains anything beyond anonymous gossip to even approach the accusation.
If he's gay, then, fine. Throw him out of the party. No problem with me there. But don't fall for the gay lobby's crusade to muddy the waters by "outing" people they don't politically like.
There are plenty of men having actual sex in the Minneapolis airport, in ways that feature plenty of evidence. There are probably Congressman that could be caught actually making verbal solicitations. But this man did neither of those things, and the cops hit the jackpot when they found a public figure hassled enough and stubborn enough to strike a "make it go away" plea without calling a lawyer.
