Valerie Plame Suing Cheney, Libby and Rove
If this isn't a joke, I don't know what is:
July 13 (Bloomberg) -- Vice President Dick Cheney, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove and former Cheney assistant I. Lewis Libby were sued by a former covert CIA agent who says they illegally conspired to reveal her identity.Valerie Plame, who worked at the agency's headquarters in Langley, Virginia, and her husband, former U.S. ambassador Joseph Wilson, filed the suit today in federal court in Washington. They are seeking unspecified financial damages.
The couple's suit accuses Cheney, Rove, Libby and other unidentified officials of violating their constitutional rights by conspiring to ``discredit, punish and seek revenge'' against Wilson for accusing President George W. Bush's administration of twisting intelligence to justify the invasion of Iraq. Libby faces criminal charges of lying and obstructing an investigation of the leak of Plame's identity in 2003.
So let me get this straight:
We have a non-covert, non-spy whose husband is a provable liar who has told no less that three versions of his trip to Niger and who claims the veep sent him there when it's been proven that his wife suggested the trip herself. We have Bob Novak, the guy who first published the non-spy's non-covert name saying just last night that Karl Rove didn't tell him Plame's non-secret identity -- he merely confirmed without naming the non-spy what Novak and half of Washington D.C. already knew. We have Scooter Libby who is indicted for lying to the FBI about an investigation into nothing. And now we have the non-covert non-spy suing three people who didn't leak the non-spy's non-covert name to anyone for leaking her non-secret name to discredit her husband who discredited himself years ago.
It is to laugh.

You're account of this affair is what is truly a joke. Valerie Plame was a covert CIA agent who worked for a CIA cover company called "Brewster Jennings & Associates". Any CIA agent working for or associated with this company was at risk at being discovered when this leak occurred (not to mention the contacts of these people). Moreover, Valerie Plame was specifically working to track WMD proliferation in Iran and, as a result of this leak, the U.S. intelligence on Iran's nuclear program has been compromised. The joke is that this administration goes ballistic when a major newspaper reveals something that every freedom-loving American needs to know (that they're been spied on illegally) -- something every terrorist has surely compensated for. And then, when important intelligence like this is compromised for political gain -- there is absolutely no accountability. Here's another one: remember during the week of the DNC convention and the "terror alert"? An unnamed Bush administration official leaked the name of a mole in Pakistan (named Khan), which prematurely ended a sting operation with Pakistani and British intelligence. At least 5 Al Qaeda members escaped. 2 men who had close ties with this operation in Pakistan ended up bombing London a year later. Put that in your joke-pipe and smoke it.
