Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/Push Coalition to Pay Alleged Rape Victim's Tuition
Regardless of whether or not the charges she is alleging against the Duke lacrosse team are true:
The Rev. Jesse Jackson said yesterday that his Rainbow/Push Coalition will pay the college tuition of a black woman who told police she was raped by white members of Duke University's men's lacrosse team - no matter the outcome of the case."I can't wait ... to talk with her and have prayer with her, because our organization is committed, when she's physically and emotionally able ... to provide for her the scholarship money to finish school so she will never ... again have to stoop that low to survive," he said from Chicago in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.
When asked, Jackson also said that his group will pay for the woman's tuition even if her story proves false. Attorneys for the lacrosse players have strongly denied that any sexual assault took place at the March 13 party, citing DNA tests performed on all 46 of the team's white members that failed to match any samples taken from the woman.
Here comes Jesse Jackson to save the day -- regardless of whether or not there is even a "day" to save. All the facts aren't in yet, but it seems that one thing is certain: The woman wasn't raped in the common sense of the word. If so there would have been all kinds of DNA evidence. So it appears that this woman will be awarded for merely making an accusation regardless of whether that accusation is true or not.
It is admirable that Jesse wants pull this woman out of stripperdom, by paying for her college tuition, but whenever the esteemed Mr. Jackson and his Rainbow/Push Coalition do something benevolent, you can't help question his motives. In this case, you can bet that Jesse wouldn't be touching this with a ten-foot pole if there wasn't some good publicity in it for him.
Another thing you can bet is that if the stripper were white and the lacrosse players were disadvantaged black kids, Jackson would be working the other side of the street and the white stripper would be completely persona non grata.

What's the issue? This isn't the government paying for her education, this is a man and his organization making the payments.
Jackson and Rainbow/Push provides monies for college for many African-Americans. Jackson seen a young lady who was dancing to pay for school-not asking for a handout and taking personal responsibility. I thought you guys like that.

Steve, have you ever been a part of a rape investigation? No? I assisted in two rape investigations when I worked in the emergency room at Chesapeake General Hospital in VA. I don't know the specifics of this case and I'm not saying this woman was raped, but the lack of DNA evidence does not conclusively prove she wasn't raped and your assertion that there would be "all kinds of DNA evidence" is wrong. How long after the alleged rape did she report the crime? Did she shower after the alleged rape? These are the two most common reasons why DNA evidence is lost in rape cases. A rape investigator looks for more than just DNA evidence. They look for bruising and vaginal tearing. Did the woman present with these symptoms?
Rape is an emotionally devestating crime. Many women don't report the crime immediately and often wait days before saying anything... especially when the rapist was an acquaintance. One of the first thing a lot of women do is to shower after being raped. They try, in effect, to cleanse the crime away. The last thing on a rape victim's mind is, "How can I preserve the evidence that a crime occurred." The last thing to remember is that the most common advice to women in the event of a rape or attempted rape is to let it happen. Don't fight it. Why? Self-preservation. The thing is that when women don't fight the rapist, the rape presents more like consentual sex... little or no vaginal tearing, bruising etc. Obviously this means less evidence that a rape occurred.
There are any number of reasons why evidence may not be available. If she reported the crime immediately or shortly after it supposedly happened and evidence of the crime was still not found, then I'd be a little more suspicious. Like I said, I'm not familiar with this particular case.

Hmm I think there are waay to many emotions and to much publicity involved. Lets face it after the arrest today these two or three boys lives are overs and hers just got easier. Now if she was raped by all means nail thier ass to the wall and make a hommade pinata. But what if she wasnt... I know from experiance how devistating that can be. I dont know if any of you remeber but in '99 a ranger attached to the 3rd bat was over seas .... it was with first spec ops and they were doing things in another country... the ranger then got off the airplane and was promptly put under arrest ... a year later convicted of rape. He served three years before the mission was declassified enough that the military could say that this soldier did not do this rape he was overseas at the time. The woman then retracted her story and come to find out that he had spurned her at a bar kind of publicly and this is how she got him back. This soldier I know personally and is a good friend of mine and no matter where he goes in his home town he is still called a rapist. He sees women hold thier kids a little tighter and that men are just more protective of there families around them. His own sister wont even come see him. Now like I said and I will reiterate if these boys did this then bury them under that jail. But if not then look how this woman has already benifited. Sometimes you have to ask are they making a robin givens play. I hope for thier sake that they are exonerated so they can pack up and leave. Ohh and Gambo how many stripper single mothers did The rainbow push colition give scholorships to last year. I amn not saying it is negitive but what sets her apart in this case besides her visiability then them?

Steve,
I know you HATE the fact that someone might 'get something for nothing' but if the siutation was flipped and a white stripper chick was allegedly rapped by some black lacrosse players, Rev. Jackson would stand up for the white chick too. Believe it or not, no one should be rapped. The Rainbow Colition gave many scholarships over the past 30 years. No one is sure how many are strippers because that's not something you put on an application. But I'm sure they have provided scholarships to many strippers because that's big business on Chicago's South and West side~The home of The Rainbow/Push Colition.
Anyway, I thought you guys on PME would have been happy for her to get college money. If she receives a scholarship from Rev. Jackson, she won't have to take the Pell Grant and your President and claim that fewer people need federal money to get an education and wipe out the pell grant program....There's a spin for ya!

Thanks EAHD I did not know that having never been to Chicago and it would go to make sense. I dont know how true your statement would be on the benevolence of Mr. Jackson if it was a white stripper but I hope that we will never find out. I hope that it did not sound as if I was saying that the gentelman can not give his money to who he sees fit I was speaking of his statement that even if this crim did not happen we will still pay for her. Wich is great by all means she will get a education and her world will be richer for it. But will Mr Jackson or anyone be there for these boys if they are found innocent. No matter what she wins she got something even say they filed a suit aginst her ( wich I dont belive they can ) it will just seems or be spun as white guy picking on black woman again and of course she will come with the statement that it is like her being raped all over or however. I was just playing devils advocate kinda just think for one second about what harm is done by ( the very few and far between ) false rape allegations. Who is going to be there for them will the rainbow push collition be there then to give these exonerated white boys jobs and restore thier reputations.

Falsly accusing some one of rape is just a bad a rapping someone. Honestly, if the allegations are false, I hope she is burned at the stake because that take away from every other person who is rapped. If the allegations are true, I hope the young men are burned at the stake. If it turns out that she is lying, I'm sure the commonwealth can and will bring charges against her...as they should.
Either way, what difference does it make to whom Rev. Jackson gives money too? Only the financial contributors should be in an uproar.

Of all the retarded idiot things leftists have smeared here this is the zenith. Jackson's only agenda is himself - he has nothing to gain by ever standing up for a white victim. Name one time he ever did (not that there aren't any incidents of black on white violence - ever).
Mind numbing ignorance and naivety.
Believe it or not, no one should be rapped.
I agree. Horrible, gutter so-called music.

If Ann Coulter wanted to provide a white stripper in your community w/ money I wouldn't give a damn and I sure as hell wouldn't expect her to give money to a black student.
By the way, as long as your here Radical Redneck the white folks are protected and protected well.

Redneck, If you are so concerned, why don't you offer to pay the tuition for the 2 young men who have been accused? Put your money where your mouth is.

Just a cotton picking minute, Ann Coulter doesn't make her entire schtick race obsessed. As a matter of fact, it isn't at all.
Way to give it the ol' moral relativist try.

Brilliant response. Way to say ...absolutely nothing.
When are you arguing at the Supreme Court?

If these guys raped this girl, then they should go to prison for a long long long long long time.
But if guys didn't rape this girl, the prosecutor should be fired for convicting them in the media, a great many people should be ashamed of themselves, and Tawana Brawley should go to prison for the damage she has caused.
I can't really say either way. But from the looks of this:

It seems like it's going to be the later. Either way it's horrible.

I totally forgot about the Tawana Brawley situation. Yes, that was crazy!
Honest Question: What was the deal with the 911 call the night of the incident? Who made that call? At first it sounded like the situation in the house and and 911 call were seperate but I haven't heard anything else about the 911 call. What happened with that?

I don't know. the 911 call is confusing, perhaps even more confusing then the rest of the story.

Also, what happened to the e-mail that was sent out by one of the players?
There are just too many inconsistancies on both sides.
