Dem's Lament: Lack Votes For Alito Filibuster
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid has said there will not be a filibuster of Judge Alito, succumbing to the realization that "there is not enough votes to support a filibuster."
The reason for no filibuster is because "there aren't enough votes for a filibuster?" This is the reason? How about the fact that such a move would create a horrible precedent that would eventually create a Supreme Court with no justices. How about because when a Democrat nominated an unquestionably fringe left-wing judge to the Supreme Court, she was confirmed with 98 votes.
The Alito confirmation hearings were a stage of reprehensible behavior on the Democrats side, and even Senator Robert Byrd recognized that. Confirming anyone to the Supreme Court should be about whether or not they are a qualified jurist, not based on their individual politics. Republicans voted to confirm a former ACLU lawyer because of her qualifications as a jurist. ALito deserves the same respect from the Democrats today.
Is this a sign the nation is politically divided? Newsflash: we've always been divided, but Republicans have clearly shown that they can look beyond the partisan bickering, sneering, and jeering; case-in-point, Justice Ginsburg.
The Democrats won't filibuster because they don't have the votes; however, that does not relinquish the fact that they would if they could, and shame on them for that.

FYI: The hyperbole knob doesn't go past ten; you've snapped it clean off.
