New York Transit Workers To Return to work
Fox News is reporting that New York TWU workers will be returning to work while contract negotiations continue. Here's what NewsMax.com has so far:
NEW YORK -- Transit workers will take steps to restore service to New York's buses and subways while the union and transit authority resume negotiaitons after a three-day strike, a state mediator announced Thursday morning. No timetable was announced for the restoration of service.
Do ya' think this has anything to do with the fact that TWU President
Roger Toussaint and his henchmen could have been headed for jail due to this illegal strike?
When you are already paying someone $63,000 a year to drive a bus and allowing them to retire at 55, what is there to negotiate? These people drive busses and subway trains for Christ's sake! That's not exactly a job that demands a whole lot of skill and to ask for a raise to damn near $80,000 over three years and retirement at 50 for doing this job is completely unreasonable. Let's hope for the sake of the good people of NYC that the MTA doesn't cave to these demands. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who would be willing to drive a bus for far less than 60 grand a year. Were I negotiating this, my position would be take your $63,000 and a minimum COL per year or take a hike -- and you can retire at 65 just like the rest of us do.
