NBC Floating in Shallow Water

While the left is in their on "ah ha!" moment at "staged teleconference," the left wing MSM flagship NBC will undoubtedly get a pass on their staging of Michelle Kosinski's canoing on less than shallow flood waters. (Political Teen has the video)

If Michelle Kosinski's canoe had sprung a leak on NBC's "Today" show Friday, she didn't have much to worry about.

In one of television's inadvertently funny moments, the NBC News correspondent was paddling in a canoe during a live report about flooding in Wayne, N.J. While she talked, two men walked between her and the camera _ making it apparent that the water where she was floating was barely ankle-deep.

Matt Lauer struggled to keep a straight face, joking about the "holy men" who were walking on water.

"Have you run aground yet?" Katie Couric asked.

"Why walk when you can ride?" Kosinski replied.

Later, an NBC News spokeswoman explained that Kosinski had been riding in deeper water near an overflowing river down the street, but there were concerns that the current was too strong for her.

"It's not like we were trying to pass it off as something it wasn't," spokeswoman Lauren Kapp said.

In comparison to what the left believes was a staged teleconference with soldiers, the two are quite different. Was the Bush teleconference "staged?"

Based on the facts of the situation, the truth is in the bias of the beholder. The questions were predetermined, but the answers came directly from the soldiers, not from the White House, the Pentagon, or anyone else. Captains Kennedy, Smith, and Pratt prepared their answers prior to the conference, but they were not cajoled into their answers.

Had they had their answers prepared for them, then the little boy did cry wolf. One has to remember that these Captains are not seasoned politicians or public speakers, and we aren't here to judge them on their off-the-cuff speaking ability. Their answers came from within themselves, and that is what is important.

The reporting of this teleconference has been quite bothersome to some, including the soldiers who participated in it. So blogs SGT. Ron Long:

Yesterday, I (bottom right corner in the picture) was chosen to be among a small group of soldiers assigned to the 42ID's Task Force Liberty that would speak to President Bush, our Commander-in-Chief. The interview went well, but I would like to respond to what most of the mass-media has dubbed as, "A Staged Event."

First of all, we were told that we would be speaking with the President of the United States, our Commander-in-Chief, President Bush, so I believe that it would have been totally irresponsible for us NOT to prepare some ideas, facts or comments that we wanted to share with the President.

We were given an idea as to what topics he may discuss with us, but it's the President of the United States; He will choose which way his conversation with us may go.

We practiced passing the microphone around to one another, so we wouldn't choke someone on live TV. We had an idea as to who we thought should answer what types of questions, unless President Bush called on one of us specifically.

So quit your whining, lefties. Your "Bush can do no right" act is just getting old. Michelle Malkin has more on the Bush Bashing by the MSM.

this was too funny! I watched it on Fox and Friends this morning. Sorry Ms. Kapp, trying to "pass it off as something it wasn't" is EXACTLY what you were trying to do. If the current was too strong for Michelle Kosinski, then they should have gotten a guy who could handle it. then they wouldn't have had to stoop to pretense. They wonder why they are losing credence with the American Public.

"It's not like we were trying to pass it off as something it wasn't," spokeswoman Lauren Kapp said.

Yeah....riiiiiiight. You weren't trying to pass off ankle-deep waters as anything other than ankle-deep waters now, were you?

Kudos to my old buddies with the 42nd. Friggin' rainbow division patch still has to go.

It is possible that both events were staged and fakey. The canoe episode was featured on The Daily Show last night to the great amusement of all...I'm assuming no one here saw that.

But Bush has done way worse things than stage some Q&A with soldiers. I don't really care about that. Pursuing the story is as frivolous as the act itself. What was truly lame about Bush's performace was not that it was staged. It was the fact that, despite its staging, Bush mumbled and fumbled over his questions. The woman who prepped the troops sounded a lot more cogent than he did.

Hmm, I almost forgot, the Daily Show covered that last night, too. Are you a staff writer?
