Bolton Nomination Goes To Senate
Finally, John Bolton's nomination will make its way to the Senate. A party line vote in the Foreign Relations Committee sent Bolton's nomination to the full Senate without the formal recommendation to approve. Democrats, however, still have a chance to block his nomination.
It was not clear when Bolton's nomination would come to the Senate floor. Republicans hold a 55-44 majority, making confirmation likely. One wild card: Democrats could still try to block a final vote. The White House predicted eventual victory despite Voinovich's harsh assessment and weeks of tumult over whether Bolton abused subordinates, stretched government intelligence to fit a preconceived ideology or misled the Senate committee.
In a statement that ignored the committee's action forwarding the nomination without a recommendation, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she was pleased it was moving to the full Senate for consideration. Rice said she has believed from the outset that Bolton is the "right man for this challenging assignment, and I hope the Senate will now move quickly to confirm him so that he can begin his work at the United Nations."
Whether it's a nomination for UN Ambassador, or judicial nominees, one thing is apparent... the Democrats are still bitter that they lost two presidential elections in 2000 and 2004, and suffered loses at the mid-term elections in 2002. That is what this is all about now, isn't it? They still believe deep down that President Bush is an illegitimate president, so they are breaking years of tradition and using unprecedented behavior in an attempt to minimize the effect of a 8 years of President Bush.
Democrats like Senator Harry Reid, or Rep. Nancy Pelosi would probably say that they are trying to prevent ultra-right wing persons from serving in delicate positions in the judiciary or representing the US in roles like UN Ambassador. They certainly don't have a problem when ultra-left wing persons get put into sensitive positions--this of course, is because in their minds, there is no such thing as ultra-left wing, they think that is mainstream. Pity on them for not opening their eyes to the evident shift in the American political spectrum. If left wing was mainstream, why is the left wing party losing election after election.
By this time next year, midterm election season will be well underway, and we will soon see how Democratic obstructionism will hurt their party in yet another blow to the alleged "party of the people."
