Update On Jessica Lunsford
As we try to not lose sight of important social issues--which has been difficult the past couple weeks--we need constant reminders and updates with the hope of bringing certain issues closer to the forefront. The aftermath of the Jessica Lunsford case must be kept in focus.
Currently, there is legislation in Florida, appropriately named "The Jessica Lunsford Act," was introduced to close a gap in certain areas of law enforcement. Specifically, this act would require probation offices to search sex offender registries, and closely search the criminal records to know more about the person they are watching.
Those are a few of the things Sen. Nancy Argenziano, R-Dunnellon, hopes the Jessica Lunsford Act requires. It attempts to bridge an information gap that has left many Florida misdemeanor probation departments without access to criminal records - a startling revelation brought to light after the arrest of John Couey, the registered sex offender accused of killing Jessica."Isn't that ridiculous? That defies logic," Attorney General Charlie Crist said Friday, adding that he plans to investigate. "It's Alice in Wonderland. It's on its head. There's got to be a way to introduce logic to the system in order to protect our people."
John Couey, who has pleaded not guilty, was out on the streets due to failures in the system. Hopefully, this act will do something to close these gaps.
Late last year, [John Couey] was being supervised by the Salvation Army Correctional Department - Citrus' hired misdemeanor probation provider - for a minor drug charge. When he failed to check in with probation, workers mailed him notices at his listed address. When they went unanswered, probation called for a violation of probation arrest warrant. They never went to the house and weren't required to. The warrant sat in the law enforcement system waiting for Couey to come into contact with the Sheriff's Office.
Sadly, it is also being reported that investigators are trying to confirm whether or not young Jessica was buried alive. The thought of pain and suffering this poor girl endured, the added horror of her possibly being buried alive... it's simply unimaginable.
A convicted sex offender facing capital murder charges in the killing of a 9-year-old Florida girl told investigators he buried her alive, law enforcement sources told CNN Friday night.Sources told CNN that investigators were still trying to confirm whether Jessica Marie Lunsford was buried alive as well as other information John Evander Couey provided. Results of the full autopsy are expected in about a month.
Please remember to write your Representatives and Senators and urge them to follow through with Jessica's Law. (Congress.org has a good form to look up all your elected representatives, at the Federal and State levels.)

Please review http://www.geocities.com/voicism/index.html for this and other poorly thought out, knee jerk legistlation that would have done nothing to save any of the victims, nor will save any victims from future assaults. This is a coverup for retribution of a class of offenders most of who only are trying to live peacefully within the law.

DA, Sorry, but this "class of offenders" are NOT mostly trying to live peacefully within the law. Oh, wait, I may be wrong here. They may be TRYING to live peacefully within the law. But, all research proves that they CANNOT DO IT. The legislation would most certainly have saved children's lives. Where the heck are you coming from?

Legislate all they want!
Where do you think they will get the funding to produce results? Why do you think the warrant sits in the basket waiting for the ex-felon to commit another crime? The fact that the person hasn't reported as required raises a flag that there's a problem.
Let's pass a "No Criminal Left Behind Act."

where were the legislature and all the judges and defense lawyers when little Jessie and all the other children were being raped, beaten and buried alive?
