Senator John Kerry 'Outs' CIA Agent?
It appears as though John Kerry and a handful of his Democratic colleagues in the Senate, may have had a slip of the tongue yesterday at the confirmation hearing of John Bolton. These Democrats, who were once critical of the Bush Administration, alleging they had purposefully "outed" CIA operative Valerie Plame in a leak to syndicated columnist Robert Novak, have themselves possibly "outed" a CIA Agent.
United States senators, including former presidential candidate John Kerry, may have inadvertently blown the cover of a CIA agent. At a hearing to discuss the nomination of John Bolton as US ambassador to the United Nations, politicians discussed a dispute over Bolton’s treatment of an intelligence analyst.
The analyst was referred to as “Mr Smith” but when Kerry read from a transcript of closed door interviews he mentioned a name that had not previously come up.
“Did Otto Reich share his belief that Fulton Armstrong should be removed from his position? The answer is yes,” Kerry said.
“Did John Bolton share that view? Yes.”While it was not completely clear whether Armstrong was the spy, Bolton replied: “As I said, I had lost confidence in Mr Smith, and I conveyed that. I thought that was the honest thing to do.”
With the mainstream media on their side, the Democrats will get a slide on this one, assuming the alleged "outing" is in fact true. The hypocrisy of the Democrats will be evidently clear. Remember Kerry's plea to the President regarding the Plame Incident?
...we need to stand up against this White House and make it clear we will not tolerate endangering the life of an intelligence agent of the United States for purposes of political revenge. One Republican source was quoted just a few days ago as saying that their defense to this scandal was to slime and defame.Well, I say to George W. Bush, Mr. President, it's time to come clean. Slime is not a way to restore honor and integrity to the White House of the United States.
Isn't it funny how your own words can come back to haunt you? Let's also look at the words of former presidential candidate, now DNC Chairman Howard Dean.
“If the president and his people are true patriots, then will stand up and ask the people who unveiled the name publicly of a CIA agent to resign right now.”
Now, isn't this rich? I doubt Howard Dean will demand for John Kerry to resign "right now" if the outing is confirmed. Perhaps Kerry and Dean will say, "those quotes are being taken out of context." Again, words can come back to haunt. At the confirmation hearing yesterday, Kerry confronted John Bolton about some choice quotes of his, to which Bolton said they were "being taken out of context." Kerry, snidely told him that they were indeed his [Bolton's] words. For Kerry to dismiss the notion of words being taken out of context is just asinine. ABCNews ran a whole story about Kerry quotes being taken out of context (article text via Free Republic). Additionally, a Kerry Campaign spokesman commented on John Kerry's words being taken out of context in a Bush campaign ad on terrorism.
In the magazine article, a largely analytical cover story by Matt Bai, Kerry is asked "what it would take for Americans to feel safe again."''We have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance,'' the article states as the Massachusetts senator's reply.
''As a former law enforcement person, I know we're never going to end prostitution. We're never going to end illegal gambling. But we're going to reduce it, organized crime, to a level where it isn't on the rise. It isn't threatening people's lives every day, and fundamentally, it's something that you continue to fight, but it's not threatening the fabric of your life.''
The Bush-Cheney campaign also announced it was releasing an ad highlighting Kerry's comment.Reuters reported that the new Bush commercial's script asks "How can Kerry protect us when he doesn't understand the threat?"
Kerry campaign spokesman Phil Singer called the Republican charges "absolutely ridiculous.""This is yet another example of the Bush campaign taking John Kerry's words out of context, and then blowing it up into something that is nothing," he said.
We'll see how this story pans out... if infact, it turns out a CIA agent was outed. Michelle Malkin says no...

Aaron, you're taking lessons from Steve. Start by telling the truth. The world already knew who Armstrong was.
Try again.
